The Dickinson Press reports that pipeline operator Summit Midstream has adopted a new policy for selecting responsible contractors that the company intends to use for future projects, including construction of a line that would connect to the Dakota Access Pipeline.
The story notes that the company was previously responsible for a nearly three million gallon produced water spill. But Evan Whiteford, a career pipeliner and LIUNA representative, said that he believes the new Responsible Contractor Policy is a "step in the right direction" that could help to prevent future incidents.
